About the Item

Stoneware and Bronze, Distressed Form NO.1 by Alexandria Roby Dimensions: D 17.78 x H 10.16 cm Materials: White stoneware lined with bronze glaze Colors - Ivory, Sandstone, or Onyx My first interaction with clay was in 2011 as an undergrad, since then I developed a profound connection to this material and it is my current medium of choice to express my creative vision. I am continuously inspired by the organic textures and colors found within the natural world, fascinated by all the subtle details and nuances we tend to overlook. With my dedication to slow living and the art of noticing, I hope my work can inspire others to reconnect, in a world that feels very disconnected. My latest work explores the creation of a perfectly symmetrical piece, adding a distressed surface texture using rocks to imprint the clay, then intentionally breaking away to give the piece raw edges and a weathered appearance. To me this act is liberating, symbolizing the destruction of the constraints of perfectionism that I’ve always felt bound by. As I continue with my experimentation, sustainability is at the forefront of my mind. I have begun working with wild clay from across the Pacific Northwest and will continue to deepen my knowledge of the material. Striving to create my art solely from what the landscape provides. My work will transmute through time, as I explore these new elements and techniques. The practice of working with raw materials from the earth has had substantial grounding and therapeutic effects. When working with clay you have no choice but to become fully immersed. I hope to be an inspiration to anyone in search of reconnection with themselves and the earth, to begin working with this healing medium. S H O R T B I O A multidisciplinary artist with a comprehensive background in art and design. Graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design in 2010, she has worked in the industry for over 15 years as a Lead Designer and Creative Director. After years of working with various mediums, ceramic art is her current area of focus. Based out of Washington state, she draws inspiration from the beauty all around her. Elements of nature are intrinsically woven throughout her work. With a dedication to slow living, Alexandria is continuously spending time outdoors to observe and gain insight from the subtle details around us. She can usually be found with a camera in hand which is another creative outlet that allows her to capture details of the natural world.
