About the Item

Striking heavy art glass vase features streamlined, sculptural form with an unusual graphic ribbed silhouette, done in thick clear glass; the vase is decorated with etched or engraved motif of a girl or young woman gathering apples or other fruit from a tree, done in Art Deco or Swedish Grace style. The vase is signed SKRUF in handwriting on the bottom. The form and the style of the decor date the vas to first half of 20th century, possibly 1920s-1940s. The elegant and decorative vase will make a great gift to an art glass collector or design enthusiast and will complement various interior styles, from Traditional to Mid Century Modern, Eclectic, Scandinavian Modern, Organic Modern, Transitional, Modern Country, Art Deco, Neo Deco, Modern Heritage, Arts and Crafts, Glam, Collected, or Contemporary. Skruf Glasbruk was founded in 1897 by Robert Celander, a former manager of Johansfors glass factory. It experienced financial difficulties in 1908, but was operating again by 1910, becoming best known for its high-quality utility and art glass. In 1974 Skruf joined Krona-Bruken, but Krona went bankrupt in 1977. Afterwards Kosta Boda bought the company; however, it was closed in 1980. In 1981, Skruf was reopened again, this time by a group of glass blowers. Over the years a number of well-known designers worked for Skruf, including Magni Magnusson, Bengt Edenfalk, Lars Hellsten, Ingergerd Raman, Anette Krahner, and Eva-Lena Martinsson.
