About the Item

A striking and highly collectible figural shot glass designed and manufactured in Taxco, Mexico by the renowned Los Castillo workshop, one of the most important silversmithing families in Mexican modern design. This sculptural vessel is crafted in solid hammered brass and richly silver-plated, showcasing the workshop’s signature textured surface. A dramatic three-dimensional lizard wraps around the body, functioning as both ornament and handle. The lizard is inlaid with a green semiprecious stone—likely serpentine—creating a bold contrast against the luminous silver finish. The interior retains a warm gilt-toned wash, adding depth and visual richness. The piece is fully hallmarked on the underside: “Los Castillo – Taxco – Plateado – TA-01” The TA-01 mark references Antonio Castillo, a key figure in the Taxco silver movement and one of the founding masters of modern Mexican metalwork. Pieces bearing this hallmark are highly sought after by collectors of mid-century Mexican design and Taxco silver. Dimensions: 4 inches high 2.50 inches wide (including lizard) 1 5/8 inches diameter Condition: Good vintage condition with minor surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. No visible silver loss. Stone inlay intact. Why Designers & Collectors Love It Authentic Taxco craftsmanship Castillo dynasty hallmark (TA-01) Figural reptile motif – organic modern aesthetic Sculptural barware / conversation piece Ideal for curated bar carts, luxury interiors, and collectors of Mexican silver This piece works beautifully in high-end interiors—especially organic modern, desert modern, or curated eclectic spaces. It also pairs well with other Los Castillo, Emilia Castillo, or Taxco silver objects.
