About the Item

Swedish Empire Mahogany Decanter Box with Three Cut Crystal Bottles, circa 1820–1830 A refined Swedish Empire flask cabinet in richly figured mahogany (Swietenia mahogoni) veneer, dating to the years circa 1820–1830. Executed in the dignified neoclassical taste that defined the Scandinavian interpretation of the Empire style, the casket displays beautifully book-matched mahogany with a warm, glowing patina developed over two centuries. The rectangular sarcophagus-form case opens to reveal its original fitted interior, housing three square-bodied crystal decanters intended for fine spirits. Each bottle is crowned with a finely cut stopper and adorned with elegant geometric cutting around the shoulders and neck, catching and refracting the light with understated brilliance. The stoppers and bodies are free from chips, preserving the clarity and refinement of the set. A light limescale residue is present inside the decanters, consistent with age and use; this is not visible when the bottles are filled. The original key is no longer present. An evocative and functional object of early 19th-century Swedish craftsmanship — equally suited to display in a period interior or to serve once more in the ritual of hospitality. Wear consistent with age and use.
