A magnificent, fine and impressive, antique Edwardian English sterling silver cup and plinth; an addition to our presentation silverware collection This magnificent antique Edwardian sterling silver trophy cup has a plain circular baluster shaped form to a circular spreading foot. The surface of this antique silver cup is plain and encircled with an applied moulded girdle to the body, in addition to a plain applied moulded border to the rim. This imposing cup is fitted with two exceptional cast silver handles realistically modelled in the form of dragons with wings elevated, grasping the rim of the cup with their claws. The circular spreading foot is encircled with a further band of applied moulded ornamentation. This magnificent antique silver cup with handles is fitted to the original painted ebonised wood plinth, encircled with a contemporary vacant silver inscription band; the band may be engraved with a personal inscription if so desired. The underside of the foot bears the retailer's mark 'Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd, 112 Regent St'. Condition This antique sterling silver trophy cup on plinth is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. This impressive cup has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The cast and applied decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this magnificent and large antique silver cup with handles. An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver cup; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver presentation cup has a campania shaped form to a circular domed foot. The bulbous, shaped lower portion of this silver cup is embellished with impressive chased and embossed leaf and floral decoration. The plain tapering surface of the cup incorporates the contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting a chevron between three roses, barbed, seeded on a chief of the second a lion passant guardant between two closed books paleways, clasped and garnished of the last, the clasps to the dexter, all above the motto 'Virtus vera nobilitas' - Virtue is true nobility*. The opposing side of this presentation piece incorporates the contemporary engraved inscription 'This Oration Prize the legacy of Dr Hooper adjudged to John Maurice Schulhof by Trinity college Cambridge, 1880' The upper rim of the cup is encompassed with an applied moulded decorated border. A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver cup & cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This magnificent and large antique Edwardian sterling silver presentation cup and cover has a Campania shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot. The lower bulbous portion of the silver cup is encircled with chased fluted ornamentation. Either side of the plain upper portion of the body of this cup is embellished with an exceptional and large applied ribbon tied laurel branch wreath, replicating the border of a classic cartouche. This impressive Edwardian presentation cup retains the impressive, original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an exceptional, fine and impressive cast sterling silver overlapping leaf and bud style finial. The rim of this substantial cover is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and dart decorated border. This antique cup and cover is fitted with two very impressive cast sterling silver handles modelled in the form of conjoined snakes, above a figural mask and Caduceus. The pedestal is encompassed with a shaped alternating leaf decorated knop to the upper portion in junction with the body. The circular domed spreading foot is encircled with a further band of chased fluted ornamentation. Such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
