About the Item

The lavish majolica centerpiece, in the shape of a krater, recalls the ancient structure of the Greek cup that was used to mix water and wine: this beautiful bowl is handmade and hand-painted in Italy, following the original Renaissance painting technique, unchanged over time, which we observe to the letter. As far as the decoration concerns, the riser reinterprets the traditional repertoire of the rich Deruta style, but characterized by the use of only cold colors such as white cerium, grey and blue. On the external surface of the object there are naturalistic ornamental motifs which, in the upper part of the body, are transformed taking on the appearance of hybrid and metamorphic figures of animals; in the base of the vase, the contour bands are marked by stylized motifs in the shape of racemes and imbrications which are repeated, adapting themselves, along the different widths of the circumferences. The handles, in the shape of coiled snakes that twist together, add to the vase a valuable elegant and whimsical appearance. What makes this piece so special is the internal surface which is also completely decorated, repeating the same ornamental pattern as the external one: in the bottom of the krater, there are animals similar to dolphins and spiral motifs, both expertly colored with light shades of grey, so as to stand out against the blue background; the decorative strip around the wall is marked by modular stylized naturalistic motifs that are repeated along the entire circumference, characterized by dense weaves of black lines and light grey backgrounds. Colors: cerium oxide, grey, Deruta blue. Visit our storefront to discover the whole deBlona collection. The beauty of a deBlona majolica is determined by the ancient process, unchanged over time and handmade, which we observe to the letter in the creation of our artworks: painting ceramics is a very complex, fascinating and insidious art, but it is precisely the human and imperfect sign that makes every piece so characteristic and totally unique. deBlona's essence is represented by the interpretation of the color and by an unrepeatable taste, with which we want to give new chromatic emotions. Majolica accompanies the history of mankind, telling its existence for centuries: here, in our Atelier, we want to keep on narrating our time.
