About the Item

Elkington & Co. pair of silver-plated chargers of The Seasons English, circa 1870 Height 4cm, diameter 54cm These exquisite decorative silver-plated, or electrotype, chargers were manufactured by the highly renowned Victorian silversmiths, Elkington & Co. The four seasons and twelve months are depicted on the chargers – two seasons and six months on each. The designs have been executed in the Renaissance revival style, with female figures and cherubs rendered in high relief. The design visible on both chargers is by Léonard Morel-Ladeuil and is attested to by a charger (of the first six months) in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
