About the Item

A fine Dutch Delft polychrome charger produced by the renowned De Klaauw pottery during the third quarter of the 18th century. Decorated with the celebrated Peacock Pattern, one of the most recognizable designs associated with Delft faience, the charger displays a vibrant and highly decorative composition executed in cobalt blue, green, iron red, and yellow enamels. The center is painted with a stylized floral arrangement issuing from an ornamental urn beneath a fan-shaped display of foliage resembling peacock feathers. Around the border, alternating decorative panels feature floral and butterfly motifs, creating a balanced and visually striking design typical of the finest Delft production of the period. Unlike the more commonly encountered blue-and-white Delft wares, this example features a rare polychrome palette that reflects the technical sophistication and artistic ambition of leading Dutch ceramic workshops during the 18th century. The reverse bears the factory mark associated with De Klaauw, one of the most respected Delft manufactories of its time. Comparable examples bearing the same factory mark and Peacock Pattern decoration have appeared in major international auction references. Dimensions: Diameter: 23 cm (9 in) Height: 4.5 cm (1.8 in) Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age. Minor rim chips, fritting, glaze wear, and surface wear commensurate with nearly 300 years of age. No restoration observed. (The photographs form an integral part of the description.)
