This 1960s stoneware vase, designed by Danish ceramicist Einar Johansen for Søholm pottery on the island of Bornholm, is a refined example of mid-century Danish ceramics. The vase is constructed from a matte brown stoneware base, offering a rich, tactile surface that reflects the earthy tones so often associated with Danish ceramics. This matte finish gives the piece an organic feel, evoking the rugged landscape of Bornholm, where Søholm has produced ceramics for centuries. One of the vase’s standout features is the repetitive decorative motif that encircles its beige-toned neck. This rhythmic decoration, executed with precision, introduces a layer of subtle ornamentation that contrasts with the otherwise simple form of the vase.
