About the Item

On offer is a ceramic bowl entitled Visage de Faune (A.R.256) by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). The interior surface of the bowl features a striking rendition of the bespoken drawing the Faun's face by the artist. The visage was outlined with bold relief lines and a prominent nose bridge. Like paint strokes on canvas, the image was created using distinctive green, grey and brown glaze, highlighted against a white background. Embossed on the lower right with mirror-reversed '30.3.55.' indicating the date of March 30th, 1955, when the design of the bowl was conceived. The exterior surface was covered in a black glaze with a slight metallic sheen. The base is stamped 'Madoura Plein Feu / Empreinte Originale de Picasso'. The bowl was made in an edition of 100. It is a great example of how the artist used low relief and glaze like strokes and paint brush to create works on a different medium. It will make a lovely addition to any collection of the Picasso ceramics.
