About the Item

Hungarian Studio Ceramic Vase by Éva Bod A geometric-shaped ceramic vase by Hungarian ceramic artist Éva Bod, finished with a distinctive yellow and black textured glaze on the exterior and a smooth yellow glaze inside. The angular silhouette emphasizes the sculptural qualities of the vessel while highlighting Bod’s interest in glaze chemistry and expressive surface treatments. The textured exterior glaze creates a vibrant interplay of dark and luminous tones, while the glossy yellow interior provides a striking contrast that enhances the clarity of the form. Such combinations of structured shapes and experimental glazing techniques are characteristic of postwar Central European studio ceramics. Éva Bod (1924–2004) began working with ceramics in 1960. What started as a hobby soon evolved into a lifelong exploration of ceramic materials and firing processes. Fascinated by the transformations occurring inside the kiln, she famously described the process as “pure chemistry.” After several years of practice she became a member of the Hungarian Fine Art Fund and established herself as a professional ceramic artist. Working from her studio, Bod produced a wide range of objects including tableware, vases, cachepots, plates, lamps, mosaics, wall decorations, figurines, and candleholders. Her work often drew inspiration from classical ceramic traditions while exploring contemporary glaze experimentation. Reference: Péter Langh, Forma Hungarica, 2015.
