About the Item

A striking large hand-painted ceramic wall charger created by Maria Lluis for the renowned Sant Vicens pottery workshop in Perpignan, France. This expressive composition depicts blooming thistles rendered in soft shades of mauve, blue, ochre and green. The painterly decoration is enhanced by Sant Vicens' characteristic lustrous iridescent glaze, giving the surface exceptional depth and light reflections. The piece is signed "Maria Lluis" on the front and bears the Sant Vicens Perpignan label on the reverse. The Sant Vicens workshop is internationally celebrated for its collaborations with major artists such as Jean Lurçat and played an important role in post-war French ceramic art. Maria Lluis' individually hand-painted works are considerably less common on the market and remain highly collectible. Condition Very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. No visible cracks or restorations. Circa 1960s Provenance Private collection, France.
