About the Item

This is a highly decorative, Earthenware (ironstone), Dinner Plate by Ridgway, dating to the Aesthetic period in the second half of the 19th Century, Victorian period, Circa 1884. The plate is well potted on a very low foot. The plate is beautifully hand decorated with a slip applied fish, seaweeds and seashells, then hand painted in bold enamels with a large gilded fish. This is pattern i860 as per the Ridgway, Bedford Works, pattern books. This piece is marked to the base with hand painted i 860 and an impressed 7 over 84 which is probably the date code for July 1884. Overall a very beautifully decorated English Ironstone Plate from the Aesthetic period of the late 19th Century
