About the Item

This charming mid-century ceramic set by Robert Picault is a fine example of the celebrated craftsmanship produced in Vallauris, the renowned French pottery center of the 1950s and 1960s. The set comprises a covered saucepan with its original lid and a matching oval oven-to-table baking dish, both beautifully hand-painted with Picault’s iconic stylized floral decoration in turquoise green and warm ochre on an ivory glazed background. The two dishes are impressed with the “RP” mark, confirming their attribution to Robert Picault. Their elegant floral motifs, combined with the characteristic hand-painted striped border of the oval dish, perfectly illustrate the joyful and highly recognizable decorative language that established Picault as one of the leading ceramic artists of Vallauris. Designed for everyday use, these pieces embody the French tradition of oven-to-table pottery, combining practicality with artistic refinement. Today, they are equally desirable as decorative objects, bringing a warm Mediterranean atmosphere to a country kitchen, modern interior, or collection of French studio ceramics. Both pieces remain in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. The glaze retains a beautiful soft sheen, the hand-painted decoration remains vibrant, and the covered saucepan still retains its original lid. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed assessment of the condition. Dimensions: Covered saucepan: H 11 cm (4.33 in) W 33 cm (12.99 in) D 23 cm (9.06 in) Oval oven-to-table baking dish: H 6 cm (2.36 in) W 34.5 cm (13.58 in) D 25 cm (9.84 in)
