About the Item

JM Glass produced this large pressed glass serving plate with organically shaped edges and a radial leaf-and-bubble motif worked directly into the glass surface. The plate is executed in clear glass with a faint pale tint consistent with mid-20th century pressed glass production. Eight serrated leaves radiate from a raised central cluster of spherical dots, a composition achieved through single-pour mold pressing rather than cutting or etching. Pressed glass tableware of this type gained wide commercial production in Europe and the United States during the postwar decades, with botanical and organic motifs reflecting broader design trends of the 1960s and 1970s. The undulating edge profile — deviating from a strict circle — required precise mold engineering to maintain consistent wall thickness across irregular forms. JM Glass specialized in decorative pressed glass pieces of this nature, combining functional form with surface relief work. Wear is consistent with age and use.
