About the Item

The Netherlands Gouda Workshop of W. J. Oliviers Verswaen (De Swaen) Circa 1625 - 1650 A polychrome Dutch Delft tile with the decoration of a predator bird sitting on a tree trunk, maybe a hawk? This tile was made by the famous workshop De Swaen of Willem Jansz Oliviers, also known as Verswaen. This workshop opened its doors in 1621 and specialized in the production of tiles with decors of fine birds and flowers. This tile is painted with pointy lilies or spearheads as corner decoration, one of the features of tiles of the De Swaen workshop. A miniature master painting of 400 years old! The tile is in great condition, but with some restorations to the edges. Further, with the normal wear and small chips, as can be expected for its age! When purchasing a tile, it comes with a display stand and a certificate of authenticity that includes a description of the tile. Are you looking for a specific type of original Dutch tile? Don't hesitate to send a message!
