About the Item

A rare antique yellow majolica flying crane plate by Joseph Holdcroft, Longton, England, circa 1870. Maker's mark on reverse - impressed "HJ" monogram. Joseph Holdcroft was one of the leading producers of Victorian majolica and this piece is a wonderful example of his celebrated nature-themed majolica. This lovely plate features a raised relief design of a majestic flying crane gliding through cherry blossoms, set against a vivid yellow stippled background. It displays beautifully, an outstanding piece for any serious majolica or 19th-century English pottery collection. Plates from Holdcroft’s flying crane series are highly sought after, and the yellow color variation is particularly scarce. Dimensions 8.25ʺW × 0.75ʺD × 8.25ʺH
