About the Item

A good Spode dessert service comprised of a round sauce tureen on flaring foot with cover and stand (7.5" x 6.25" x 6.5" high); a pair of fluted, shell-shaped dishes with handles (8" x 8.5"); a pair of small double-handled serving dishes (9.5" x 7"); and twelve dessert plates (9" diameter), all with pale yellow-ground bands extensively-decorated with burnished gold scrolls and curlicues enclosing finely-painted topographical views, primarily of Scotland. Marked in black SPODE. Seventeen pieces total, all with gilt gadrooned rims. The views are labeled on the reverse: Eltham Bridge; Tambr. South Wales; Near St. Albans; Winsor Castle; Bedford Bridge; The old Ouse Bridge York; Lanercost Priory, Cumberland; Donne Castle, Perthshire; Barsham Suffolk; Rochester Castle, Kent; Cowling Castle, Kent; Cory Lynn on the River Cline; Castle Grantuly, Perthshire; Glasgow Cathedral; Gray Croak Castle, Milothom; Walsingham Priory, Norfolk.
