About the Item

From Wedgwood, a Bird and Fan pattern plate in the Aesthetic taste, England, date marked 1878. In the larger dinner plate size, a bird and fan motif with Dogwood tree branches and blossoms, on the off-white ground called Argenta Ware, and in the Japonisme style popular during the later 19th Century. Three different birds in flight are divided into panels by gray and yellow glazed pleated fans that meet in the center. Rimmed in alternating bands of gray and yellow, with a narrow burgundy red inner band. Marked: Impressed Wedgwood, hand painted Pattern No. 2789, date code WHG, the H for the year 1878, and an English Registry Lozenge. Also seen is a printed mark showing the Staffordshire Knot with the letters AMS, most likely the trademark of a retailer. 9 inches in Diameter x 1 inch H Very good antique condition with the expected minor darkening often seen on the Argenta pieces.
