This fine set of wine glasses dates to the late 19th century, a period when glassware became increasingly elegant as advances in glassmaking enabled thinner walls, more delicate stems, and enhanced clarity. Designs of the era reflected both Victorian sensibilities and the emerging Art Nouveau movement, ranging from richly cut crystal to gracefully blown forms adorned with subtle, nature-inspired motifs. As wine culture grew, glass shapes also became more specialised, with distinct forms developed to highlight the character and aroma of different wines.
This collection is beautifully proportioned, each glass rising from a classic capstan stem. The bowls are delicately etched with a continuous band of flowers and leaves, echoing the rising popularity of naturalistic Art Nouveau decoration.
A very fine ensemble, these glasses make a charming addition to any collection and can be enjoyed not only for serving wine but also for other beverages or as elegant decorative pieces.
