About the Item

Spectacular Ruby Red Murano Glass Goblet with Intricate Applied Scrolls and Gilded Detailing, Circa 1970s This is an exceptional and highly decorative Murano glass goblet or chalice, hand-crafted on the Venetian island of Murano, Italy, around the 1970s. It is a stunning example of the complex artistry and vibrant colors characteristic of vintage Italian glass. The goblet features a large, bowl-shaped top in a rich, brilliant ruby red color, which flares gently outward at the rim. The bowl rests upon a beautifully adorned clear glass stem. The most eye-catching element is the sophisticated decoration of the stem. It is centered around an open, figure-eight or teardrop-shaped loop, formed from thick, twisted strands of the same bright red glass. Flanking this central motif are elaborate, curled glass embellishments—often called "wings" or scrolls—made of clear glass that contains subtle flecks of shimmering gold dust (known as gold aventurine) and a wispy milky-white streak. These curled elements add an almost architectural, ornate quality to the piece. The structure is anchored by a broad, perfectly round base, which is finished in the same deep, solid ruby red glass as the bowl. This imposing glass is not just tableware; it is a sculptural piece of art. Its magnificent color, refined detailing, and expert craftsmanship make it a truly sophisticated item for display and a superb addition to any collection of fine Italian decorative arts.
