About the Item

Remarkable Alfaraz decorative pitcher designed by Renowned Spanish ceramicist artists: Miguel DURAN-LORIGA and Jesus MARTITEGUI, circa 1960s. This particular pitcher was never used and is considered "Old New Vintage Stock" retaining its original Biographical and Company tag. As you can see from the photos of the tag, the artists won the Gold Medal Award at the Munich International Exhibition in 1960, ALFARAZ, Madrid Spain. This pitcher has a beautiful hand painted image of a Spanish King with decorative geometric designs surrounding the item. This item is glazed on the inside, but really this amazing pitcher is designed to stand on its own as a work of art. SIZE: 12.25" high 6.25" diameter at base ALFARAZ: This ceramic creation comes from the ALFARAZ workshops in Madrid, Spain. It is entirely hand-made and decorated according to the design and under the direction of two of Spain's foremost ceramic artists, Miguel DURAN-LORIGA and Jesus MARTITEGUI. It is composed of clay treated with pure metallic oxides and baked at a high temperature. In its execution, and even in its contemporary design, it is rooted in the Spanish ceramic tradition which flourished in craft workshops on the Peninsula between the twelfth and seventeenth Century, the golden era of Spanish Art. Through its link with the crafts of the past and through its own vitality, this ceramic creation represents the most authentic Spanish tradition, and the contemporary concept of one of mankind's most ancient arts: ceramics.
