About the Item

We offer this fantastic mosaic and brass pitcher designed by Salvador Teran in excellent vintage conditions, circa 1960. About Salvador Teran: Born in Taxco, (1920-1974) trained with William Spratling at el Rancho "Las Delicias", then from 1939 worked with his cousins Los Castillo at their taller before moving to Mexico City and setting up on his own there at “La India Bonita” in 1952. Both innovative and inventive, his jewelry features pierced forms with shadowboxed backgrounds lending a highly graphic quality to his slightly surrealistic work. He is also well known for his mosaic pieces, trays, wall hangings, coffee sets and boxes, usually brass with brightly colored glass tesserae inlaid in modernist and pre-Columbian inflected designs.
