About the Item

Striking mid-century Mexican Modern water pitcher designed and produced by the celebrated Los Castillo silversmith workshop in Taxco, Mexico, circa 1960s. This sculptural vessel features a dramatic tapered form crafted in solid brass and fully clad in a mosaic of iridescent abalone shell inlay, creating a luminous surface of shifting blues, greens, and violets. The geometric composition of shell panels reflects the artistic experimentation and craftsmanship that made Taxco metalwork internationally collectible during the mid-20th century. The elegant angular handle, also decorated with abalone inlay, complements the vessel’s modernist silhouette, making this piece both a functional barware object and a decorative sculptural accent ideal for sophisticated interiors. The underside retains the original hallmark: “Los Castillo – Taxco – Mexico” Los Castillo is one of the most important names in the history of Mexican silversmithing, founded by Antonio Castillo, one of the early masters of the Taxco silver renaissance. Pieces from the workshop are highly sought after by collectors of Mexican modern design, Taxco silver, and luxury decorative arts. Perfect as: A statement bar pitcher A luxury tabletop centerpiece A decorative object for modern, coastal, or Palm Beach interiors A collectible example of Taxco Mexican Modern craftsmanship The abalone shell creates a spectacular play of color under light, making this piece particularly striking in bar carts, dining tables, or cocktail settings.
