This circa 1880 Pinder, Bourne & Co brown transferware 15.5" by 12.5" oval earthenware platter features the Aesthetic Movement pattern, "Nipon". The asymmetrical pattern includes a Japonisme ribbon cartouche overlaying a dense grouping of cherry blossoms growing on leafy branches. One side of the ribbon bears a repeating geometric Greek Key pattern, while the other bears waterside images including a pair of swans swimming amidst cattails and reeds. The Victorian earthenware platter is in very good condition with no cracks or repairs. As an antique, the piece shows signs of age including fine crazing to the glaze, light marks to the face, and shelf wear to the foot. English ironstone platter circa 1890. Chinoiserie or Imari style, decorated with flowers.

This is a finely hand painted large and rare early Stone China (Ironstone) plate / stand or platter which dates to the George 111 period, circa 1815. Made by the DAVENPORT factory of Longport, Staffordshire Potteries, England. The plate is very well potted with a slightly raised central circular section. This plate is beautifully hand painted in a pattern called "Stork", which is pattern number 24 and one of Davenport's very few Chinoiserie patterns. This bold pattern features polychrome enamels with a stork, chrysanthemum and peony in an oriental garden. There are under-glaze blue transfers in under-glaze cobalt blue, with orange, pink, and brown over-glaze enamels. The pattern is embellished with excellent hand gilding. This pattern is a match to the Ralph & James Clews pattern called " Crane in Chinese Garden". A photo of the Clews plate in this pattern is on page 142 of Griselda Lewis' "A Collector's History of English Pottery".
