About the Item

A bold and sculptural three-piece casserole server by Arthur Court, featuring the iconic “Leo Lion” zodiac motif, marked and dated 1984, and from the celebrated Iris Apfel Collection. Executed in Arthur Court’s signature sand-cast aluminum, the design exemplifies the brand’s early mature period—when richly modeled wildlife motifs and zodiac themes became highly collectible. The circular tray base is encircled by a continuous frieze of finely detailed lion heads in high relief, while the domed lid features a stylized lion portrait rendered with fluid engraved linework and sculptural presence. The original Pyrex France clear glass insert—a fluted, handle-free bowl—is designed to nest within the aluminum surround, allowing for elegant oven-to-table presentation. Dimensions: Tray base: 14.25 in. diameter Pyrex insert: 10.25 in. diameter Lid: 11.5 in. diameter Materials Cast aluminum (tray and lid) Pyrex France clear glass (insert) Condition: Good overall condition. Light surface wear and minor scuffs to aluminum consistent with age and use. Glass insert free of cracks or chips. Presents beautifully. It is rare to find a complete set. Provenance: The Iris Apfel Collection About the Maker: Arthur Court Designs, founded in 1966, is renowned for its distinctive cast aluminum serveware, blending naturalistic and figural motifs with functional tabletop design. Pieces from the late 20th century—particularly figural and zodiac examples—have become increasingly collectible.
