About the Item

This early period Worcester shell-shaped Kakiemon design porcelain shrimp or dessert dish is an extreme rarity. The pattern originally found on Asian porcelains, was popular with the British manufacturers of the late 18th century, but it stretched their abilities so rarely done. This piece, in remarkably near-pristine condition, is a wonderful shape, still crisply and prominently showing the use of brick or Chinese red, gold, turquoise, green, brown, darker blues and an unusual but striking beautiful use of pink. In addition to the wonderful pattern, the rear retains its fabulous printed Flight, Barr & Barr Worcester mark as well as the impressed Crown over "BFB" mark. The printed mark, rarely found, attests to the proprietors, Flight, Barr & Barr of the Royal Porcelain Works Worcester, establsihed 1751, and their allegiance to "their Majesties and the Prince Regent" by decree of Royal Warrant - rarely given to a manufacturer unless they provide personally to the Royal family and are of the utmost quality. One of the best pieces of porcelain we have had in years!
