About the Item

These are a beautiful set of NINE porcelain Monkey Figures or Figurines all playing in a Band made by Sitzendorf, Germany, circa 1910. What makes these figures special is the excellent attention to detail in the potting of the figures and the quality of the hand decoration, with each monkey musician having a different facial expression. The figures are finely modelled in very good detail. They depict eight different monkey figures plus a band conductor ( Nine figures in total), all playing different musical instruments. Instruments include a French horn, Double Bass, bag pipes, drums, fiddle, clarinet or flute, trumpet and bassoon, the whole group forming an eight piece musical band. Each figure has been carefully hand decorated in various different coloured enamels of pastel shades. Colours include turquoise, yellow, beige, green, red, blue, pink, puce etc. The figures are all dressed very smartly in tunics and long coats. Each figure has carefully applied hand gilded gold detail to the edges of the tunics, the pockets, tunic buttons and the circular bases. The figures have the blue printed Sitzendorf crossed sword mark which we date to Circa 1910, or possibly earlier back to the late 19th century.
