When Sundermann took over the artistic direction of the historic Fürstenberg Porcelain Manufactory in the early 1970s, he pursued a clear vision: to lead the more than 225-year-old manufactory into the modern era—not through ornament, but through form, material, and proportion. The GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts describes Selecta as a move toward a "condensed elegance"—a deliberate reduction to the essential. This 45-piece tea service for twelve perfectly embodies that philosophy. Soft, precisely modeled transitions, harmonious proportions, and a beautifully balanced silhouette give every piece an effortless sense of refinement. Nothing is decorative for decoration's sake; every line exists for a reason. Particularly distinctive is the S-117 celadon green décor. Celadon is one of the most celebrated glaze colors in the history of ceramics, inspired by Chinese prototypes whose subtle jade-green tones have symbolized serenity, harmony, and timeless elegance for centuries.
