About the Item

A small, rustic French souvenir pitcher from the 19th century, originating from Menthon-Saint-Bernard, a picturesque village nestled in the Haute-Savoie region near Lake Annecy. Handcrafted in terracotta and finished in a deep brown glaze, the pitcher is decorated with naive, hand-painted alpine scenery—including fir trees and an edelweiss flower—accompanied by raised lettering that reads MENTHON ST. BERNARD. Likely produced as a memento for travelers visiting the French Alps, this charming piece embodies the simple, homespun character of regional pottery. The spout and handle are fully functional, though the pitcher now serves best as a decorative accent on open shelving, in a rustic kitchen, or as part of a vintage ceramics collection. Good vintage condition with wear to the rim and minor glaze losses consistent with age and use.
