Stunning Example of a Traditional Brick Layers Heavy Duty Sterling Silver Trowel of unusually large size, complete with its original hand carved bone handle. Last quarter of the Nineteenth Century, dated 1891. Inscription as shown within image Condition: Good condition for such an early piece with no losses anywhere, some wear to leather case on the outside. Mark of Martin Hall & Co. London Hallmark for 1877. Weight: (trowel including handle) 7.6ozs. (214 grams). Measurements: Length: (leather case closed) 13.5" (34.5cm). Width: (of leather case) 4.25" (11cm). Lumbutts United Methodist Free Church United Methodist Free Church, Lumbutts Originally the Wesleyan Association Chapel which opened on July 9th 1837 after local dissenters withdrew from the nearby Methodist Society at Mankinholes. The new chapel prospered and by 1877 the old building was demolished and replaced with the present larger building with a school on the ground floor underneath the chapel. Lumbutts Methodist Church is also home to "The Old Lady of Lumbutts", a huge, hundred year old church organ which was renovated in 1989 at a cost of £11,500 raised by local villagers.
