About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique William III English sterling silver tazza; part of our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique William III English sterling silver tazza has a plain circular form onto a cylindrical pedestal foot. The surface of the tazza is plain and bears the silversmith's centre punch and circular tooled mark to the centre; this mark was utilised for the embellishment of an engraved coat of arms or crest. The rims of the tazza and foot are encompassed with impressive embossed gadroon decorated borders. The underside of the silver dish/tazza is ornamented with the contemporary engraved initials 'AC DC' and the date '1695'. Such period examples, in this exceptional condition, are becoming increasingly scarce to the market. NOTE: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. Due to this unfortunate event we are unable to associate a maker to this tazza. Condition This antique tazza is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full British hallmarks struck to the underside of the tazza are all clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this 17th Century sterling silver tazza dish.
