About the Item

Important sterling and gilt inkwell by John & Joseph Angell London 1853, depicting a likeness of Shakespeare, Socrates and other scholars. The inkwell is in mint condition with no issues and has gilt decoration on the lid and body as well as each cartouche. There five gilt pen holders and gilt and scalloped bottom. Nicely scrolled, engraved and decorated. The inkwell has a fitted original ink bottle in a green art glass color, the bottle is slotted to fit the bottom holder to open and fill. The bottle has no chips or cracks, and is perfect even around the top hole. Perfect. Each piece is fully hallmarked and stamped, the inkwell measures 7"-inches in diameter x 6 1/2"-inches high.
