About the Item

This silver acid-etched Bezalel Kiddush goblet from Israel circa 1950 is a beautiful piece of Judaica with significant artistic and cultural value. The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design was founded in 1906 by Boris Schatz in Jerusalem, the Bezalel Academy is the oldest institution of higher education in Israel. It played a crucial role in developing a distinctive Israeli artistic style, merging European techniques with Middle Eastern motifs and Jewish symbolism. Kiddush Goblet is set on a circular domed base with acid-etched designs of vines and grape cluster motifs with the words 'Bezalel', 'Israel', and 'Jerusalem' written in Hebrew and integrated into the designs. Intricate filigree scrolling adorns the top base and both ends of the conical stem with harmonious filigree scrolling decorating the lower portion of the upper bowl. Surrounding the main body of the goblet are acid-etched vine and grape cluster motifs with floral framed cartouches containing biblical phrases in Hebrew about man and the joys wine brings to him styled uniformly. Three prominent filigree medallions are embossed into the sides of the goblet with an emerald-colored stone encased in their centers. The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, has been a significant center for Israeli art and craftsmanship. Pieces like the silver acid-etched Kiddush goblet are highly valued for their craftsmanship and cultural significance and are particularly prized by collectors of Judaica.
