About the Item

This remarkable silver and filigree spice container, crafted in Lemberg in 1814, is a masterful expression of early 19th-century Judaic artistry. Designed in the form of a miniature tower, the container stands on a delicate, open circular base, supported by three intricately twisted wirework stems that converge gracefully at the center, creating a light, airy foundation that evokes both strength and elegance. The upper structure of the container is an exquisite display of scrolled filigree craftsmanship, featuring finely wrought silver threads arranged in harmonious, flowing patterns that lend the piece an almost lace-like delicacy. At the midpoint, a solid, polished ring encircles the container, marking the junction where the upper and lower halves slide open, revealing the compartment for fragrant spices used in the Havdalah ritual. Topping the piece is a charming flag finial, adding a spirited, ceremonial flourish to the overall composition. Hallmarked at the top of the circular base. 1.77ozt
