About the Item

Elegant silver teapot with typical Queen Anne decoration: oval-bellied body, curved lines, semi-godronated walls, offset shoulder and flush, side-hinged lid with godronated dome and wooden vase knob, elongated spout, curved handle fixed at a distance at the top with ebonised wooden insert, protruding ring on the base for attaching to the elegant, simple silver rechaud with four tall, legs profiled on the outside with stylised floral motifs on the feet, attached by a hinge with a pull-out pin on the front of the pot, which allows pouring by tilting the pot forward, and another pin on the back for complete attachment to the rechaud, ring-shaped holder below the frame for inserting the hemispherical burner. All parts made of 925 silver, completely preserved. Total size: Highth: 31,0 cm / 12.20 in Width: 21,5 cm / 8.46 in Depth: 13,0 cm / 5.11 in Gross weight: ca. 1400 Grams / 49.28 oz / 45.01 troy oz Hallmarks: Crown - City mark of Sheffield Lion - 'Lion passant' England, Sterling Silver 925 'V' in octagon - date letter 1888-1889 Woman's head in octagon - Duty mark Shield mark 'W.G J.L' - Master's mark - William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman, London GOLDSMITHS & SILVERDMITHS COMPANY, 112 REGENT ST Goldsmiths' & Silversmiths' Company, 112 Regent Street, London W: William Gibson (d. 1913) and John Lawrence Langman (1846 - 1928) established the Goldsmith and Silversmith Co in 1880. The firm was active at 112 Regent Street, London acquiring the premises previously used by John Joseph Mechi. In 1893, the firm absorbed The Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd (late A.B. Savory & Sons) and in 1898 became the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd being active as jewellers, dealers in diamonds and precious stones, silversmiths, electroplaters and watch and clock makers. In 1952, Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd was amalgamated with Garrard & Co Ltd. firm and participated in a number of national and international exhibitions: Indian and Colonial Exhibition (London, 1886), Paris (1889), Chicago (1893), California (1894), Paris (1900) and Franco-British Exhibition (London, 1908). The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co was active with manufactories at Newcastle Place, Clerkenwell; Regent Works, Sheffield and Rue St George, Paris and as retailer of items supplied by various British gold and silver manufacturers (Martin Hall & Co Ltd, W&G Sissons, Wakely & Wheeler, William Comyns, Harrison Brothers & Howson, etc.) Bibliography: John Culme, 'The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths 1838-1914', Woodbridge 1987 Very well-maintained condition, silver cleaned and polished, age-related signs of wear
