About the Item

This antique silver dessert spoon was made in Riga in 1879, during the Russian Empire period. The spoon is crafted from 84 zolotnik silver, equivalent to approximately 875 silver, and bears period hallmarks including the Riga assay mark and the date 1879. The silver dessert spoon has a clean and elegant 19th-century form, with a rounded bowl, narrow stem and a simple flat handle. The handle is decorated with an engraved monogram, adding a personal historical detail to the piece. Its restrained design makes it a good example of everyday Baltic silver tableware from the Russian Empire period, where practical form was often combined with subtle decorative details. This Riga silver dessert spoon would be suitable for a collection of Russian Empire silver, Baltic silver or antique tableware. It can also be used as an individual decorative table piece.
