About the Item

A sterling silver Georg Jensen teapot with ebony handle and finial, design #1011 by Johan Rohde from 1906. Originally designed as a coffee pot, this piece resembles an Aladdin’s lamp. A beautiful design in its own right, this piece has an importance far beyond its own beauty, this is perhaps the most important piece of silver designed by Johan Rohde. It was this design, together with a sugar and creamer, that Rohde brought to Georg Jensen in 1906 to be made for his own personal use. Georg Jensen was so impressed by Rohde’s design that he asked him to design more pieces for production. It was this relationship that started the practice of external design collaborations which gradually brought so many different design languages into the Georg Jensen fold. This piece was first put into production as a teapot by Georg Jensen Silversmithy in 1952, long after both Jensen and Rohde passed away (1935). This striking Art Deco sterling silver teapot, hallmarked in Sheffield in 1928 by celebrated silversmiths Walker & Hall, is a superb example of early 20th-century British design. Crafted in solid sterling silver, the teapot features a bold hand-hammered finish, reflecting the geometric elegance of the Art Deco movement. The teapot rests on a raised circular pedestal base with a gadroon border, echoed around the lid for a harmonious design. Its beautifully curved spout and distinctive ebonised wood handle and finial provide both aesthetic balance and functional comfort. The hammered texture catches the light magnificently, making it an eye-catching centrepiece for luxury interiors, collectors, or decorative table settings. This antique silver teapot not only offers timeless appeal but also embodies the fine craftsmanship of Walker & Hall, one of Sheffield’s most esteemed silversmiths. A perfect addition for antique silver collectors...
