About the Item

An elegant Georgian mahogany hexagonal wine cooler (cellarette), dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. Raised on square tapering legs terminating in classic spade feet, this handsome piece embodies the refined proportions and understated elegance associated with Georgian furniture. The hinged lift-top opens to reveal the original shaped interior bottle divisions, designed to accommodate up to seven wine bottles. Although the original metal liner is no longer present, the interior retains its authentic compartmentalised layout, making it an excellent decorative piece or practical storage cabinet. Crafted from richly figured mahogany with warm natural patina developed over generations, the wine cooler features a distinctive hexagonal form that makes it an attractive statement piece for a dining room, library, study, or country house interior. Brass carrying handles to the sides further enhance both its functionality and period character. The piece remains in good antique condition commensurate with age. The top shows expected wear from over two centuries of use and would benefit from a gentle restoration with fine wire wool followed by a quality wax polish to revive its original lustre. The interior liner is absent, as noted, but the original bottle compartments remain intact. A highly decorative and increasingly sought-after example of Georgian furniture, equally suited for use as a traditional wine cooler, cellarette, side table, or distinctive accent piece.
