About the Item

19th Century hand hooked rug in a free form design,  We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in earth tone colors.  The  hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes.  The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface.  Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be  filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique.    Because of the delicacy in the material and construction of vintage hand hooked rugs, they should be used with care.  The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Vintage Moroccan Boucherouite Tapestry Rug, Hand-Woven, Abstract Design, 5' x 7'

Vintage Moroccan Boucherouite Tapestry Rug, Hand-Woven, Abstract Design, 5' x 7'

Located in Barrington, IL

This striking vintage Moroccan tapestry rug is a bold expression of artistic weaving, blending traditional craftsmanship with a distinctly modern abstract aesthetic. Handwoven by skilled artisans, this unique textile features a dynamic composition of geometric and painterly forms rendered in a vivid palette of red, pink, blue, green, purple, brown, and yellow. The interplay of color and form evokes the visual language of mid-century modern abstraction, reminiscent of the works of Josef Albers and Paul Klee, where color relationships and structure create a sense of rhythm and harmony. Versatile in function, this Moroccan textile can be displayed as a tapestry wall hanging or used as a decorative area rug, instantly becoming a focal point in any interior.
