A gorgeous ten-arm gilded bronze antique French Louis XV style crystal chandelier from France circa 1875 affixed with an abundance of crystal and glass pendants. This antique French chandelier has a unique appearance because of the use of highly reflective crystals and poured glass pendants that emphasize the tall and slender profile. The beautiful golden frame has ten arms each with a pair of starburst rosettes above the long pendant with one set being directly beneath each arm and the other set at the midway point between the central column and the light. The unusual contour of each pendant is designed to refract the light and spread its rays outward to shine on the gold frame and illuminate the room. The most distinctive feature of this chandelier are the three impressive poured glass "poignards" set above the lights adjacent to the central column. The term originates from a particular type of French dagger with its evenly tapered shape that reaches a pointed end. The fabulous detail on these poignards adds a tremendous amount of reflectivity to this antique chandelier because of the multitude of surfaces. In relation to the poignards are three similar sections of shaped glass that encircle the central column on this antique chandelier. Similarly faceted as the pendants and poignards they continue the amount of glittering areas reflecting light. At the top of the French fixture is an inverted crown from which hang five separate rosettes and pendants and on the next level down but still above the lights is another tier of five rosettes and pendants in a slightly different pattern. Finishing the base of the chandelier is a grand scale orb of faceted crystal whose simplicity is a wonderful choice. The sense of luxury created by the balance of the gilded and crystal and glass on this antique Louis XV style chandelier is quite desirable and the unusual combination of details adds to its allure.
