About the Item

This is a fine antique brass chandelier in the traditional Dutch style, designed with two tiers of six arms each, creating an impressive twelve-light arrangement. The piece is crafted in heavy cast and turned brass, giving it both presence and durability. The form centers around a large spherical ball at the base, a hallmark of classic Dutch chandeliers, which not only adds visual weight but also ensures that the fixture hangs with perfect stability and balance. At the top, the chandelier is crowned with a striking double-headed eagle, a symbol historically associated with power and prestige, while decorative scrolls and stylized dolphin motifs further enrich the central stem. The sweeping S-shaped arms are fitted with candle-form sockets, now adapted for electricity, preserving the traditional character while allowing for modern use. Dating to the early 20th century, this chandelier reflects the revival of 17th- and 18th-century Dutch designs that were highly prized in both civic buildings and grand private homes. Its substantial weight, elegant silhouette, and intricate detailing make it a commanding centerpiece for a dining room, hall, or library. It has been carefully cleaned in our workshop, with the sockets and wiring fully renewed. As a result, the piece is in excellent working condition and can be used safely with both European and American electrical systems.

This monumental hanging lamp is an exceptional lighting object from the early twentieth century and originates from the Bruges region in Belgium, an area that was well known at the time for its high level of craftsmanship and metalwork.
