About the Item

Carlo Nason “Medusa” Murano Glass Pendant Light, Italy, 1960s Sculptural “Medusa” pendant lamp designed by Carlo Nason and produced in Murano, Italy, circa 1960–1970. The fixture is composed of four hand-blown glass elements in layered opalescent crystal with subtle bluish tones, creating a soft, diffused light and a striking organic volume. The stacked configuration generates a pure and balanced form, emblematic of the Italian Space Age aesthetic, where lighting became an architectural and atmospheric element. The chromed metal canopy and hardware provide a refined contrast to the luminous glass body. This example has been restored using the kintsugi technique, transforming the intervention into a deliberate aesthetic feature that enhances the sculptural character of the piece while preserving its integrity. When illuminated, the layered glass produces a warm and atmospheric glow with exceptional depth. Carlo Nason, born in Murano into one of the island’s historic glassmaking families, is renowned for his innovative approach to traditional techniques and for redefining modern Venetian lighting. His works are held in major museums and international private collections.
