About the Item

This substantial industrial pendant originates from mid-century Hungary and was manufactured by EKA (Elektromos Készülékek és Anyagok Gyára), a state-run factory known for producing heavy-duty electrical equipment and lighting for industrial and public infrastructure from the 1940s through the late 20th century. The enamelled steel shade is finished in deep black vitreous enamel, paired with a polished aluminium gallery and its original glass lens. The factory-stamped markings remain intact, including the EKA triangular logo, voltage specifications and the original mercury-vapour lamp rating. These functional details, once purely technical, now serve as subtle design features that reinforce its provenance and authenticity. Fully restored and rewired, the pendant now accommodates a standard E27/E26 lamp, making it compatible with modern LED bulbs. All electrical work has been completed to contemporary safety standards while preserving the historic components and surface character. Measuring approximately 44.5cm in diameter and 52cm high, this fixture carries the satisfying scale and presence associated with Eastern Bloc industrial manufacturing. The original patina and minor wear developed over decades of service remain visible, offering a sense of history without compromising quality or performance.
