About the Item

Large circular six‑light chandelier by Jacques Adnet, France, circa 1950, measuring an impressive 66 inches in diameter. The design is conceived as a spare “wagon‑wheel” ring, the wide circular frame wrapped in dark leather with Adnet’s characteristic hand‑stitched saddle detail, and supported by a patinated brass stem and canopy. Six gently arched brass arms radiate from the leather‑clad hub and terminate in cylindrical parchment‑colored shades that cast a warm, diffuse light and emphasize the chandelier’s strong horizontal line. The scale and clarity of the circle give the piece a powerful architectural presence, ideal over a large dining table, in a reception room, or above a conference table. Jacques Adnet (1900–1984) was one of the leading French Art Deco and modernist designers, celebrated for his rigorously functional furniture, clean geometries, and luxurious yet pared‑back materials. From the late 1940s into the 1950s he developed his now‑iconic vocabulary of metal frames sheathed in hand‑stitched leather, a language he refined in an exclusive collaboration with Hermès that produced chairs, desks, lighting and accessories in saddle‑stitched leather inspired by the house’s equestrian heritage. This chandelier, with its leather‑wrapped ring, exposed brass structure and disciplined, modern silhouette, perfectly embodies Adnet’s fusion of French luxury craftsmanship and forward‑looking modern design, and is an exceptional example of his large‑scale custom lighting
