Rare Ceiling Light by Stilnovo, Italy, 1950s A rare and architecturally ambitious chandelier by Stilnovo, this piece reveals its full intention when viewed from below – eight spherical shades positioned at each node and terminus of a black lacquered rod structure that resolves into a precise diamond grid. Rhombic negative space, intersecting angles, a crystalline lattice suspended in air. The spheres appear impaled on the rods rather than merely supported by them, held at each node with a precision that suggests both engineering rigor and sculptural intent – closer to a molecular diagram or a Buckminster Fuller study than to any conventional chandelier form. The spheres themselves are enameled metal in a warm greige tone, each one pierced with a constellation of small perforations. When lit, the fixture becomes something between a lamp and a celestial map. An exceptional example of Stilnovo at its most experimental. Rewired for U.S. standards. Accommodates 8x E26 sockets; we recommend a maximum of 40W or LED equivalent per socket.
