About the Item

This remarkable set of four 19th century monumental solid silver candlesticks, each standing 68 cm tall, was crafted by the distinguished German silversmith Franz Xavier Hellner (1819–1901). Hellner was one of the foremost Rhine-region masters of 19th-century historicist ecclesiastical silverwork, renowned for his skill in the neo-Gothic idiom and his workshop’s production of liturgical and ceremonial objects. Executed with meticulous craftsmanship and a lustrous finish, the set reflects Hellner’s mastery of form and decorative vocabulary, making them not merely functional objects but prestigious works of silver artistry. They would be particularly suited to a grand ecclesiastical setting, a formal interior ensemble, or a museum collection illustrating historicist metalwork of the 19th century. Museum and Public Collections - Works by Franz Xavier Hellner are known from historic and liturgical contexts, and examples of his silverwork are held in museum collections. - Notably, the Museum für Niederrheinische Sakralkunst in Kempen, Germany, includes examples of Hellner’s work in its exhibition of regional sacred art. - Literature: Establissement Franz Xavier Hellner, Birgitta Falk, Krefeld 1994. Dimensions: H68 x 20 x 20 cm. H26.77 x 7.87 x 7.87 inch. Weight 9kg.
