About the Item

This tall stairway chandelier is a remarkable piece of monumental modernist lighting, designed specifically for a grand, high-ceilinged institutional space. Its aesthetic bridges industrial precision with architectural elegance, resembling a luminous column of classic organ pipes or cascading icicles. The design emphasizes verticality, symmetry, and rhythmic repetition, commanding attention while integrating seamlessly into a dignified environment like the Hungarian National Bank Headquarters. Thick, circular canopy is crafted from brushed aluminum. The satin finish of the aluminum provides a subtle, sophisticated contrast to the high-gloss glass below. Each triod glass rod is individually suspended from the underside of the crown using custom mechanical hardware—consisting of robust S-hooks and cylindrical metal end-caps. This visible, articulated joinery highlights the craftsmanship and structural integrity of the piece. The cylindrical cluster of glass is arranged in a stepped, cascading formation. While the upper and central body forms a dense, unified cylinder, the inner tiers extend further downward, creating a dynamic, asymmetrical termination at the base. Schott Borosilicate Triod Rods: Crafted from Schott borosilicate glass—a material celebrated for its exceptional optical purity, durability, and thermal resistance—the rods feature a distinct triod (three-lobed or triangular/fluted) cross-section. Prismatic Refraction: The triod geometry is essential to the chandelier's lighting performance. Rather than allowing light to simply pass through, the multi-angled edges act as vertical prisms. When illuminated from within, the internal light sources catch the edges of the rods, creating intense, brilliant bands of warm gold and amber light along their entire length. When Illuminated: The fixture transforms into a radiant, glowing pillar that emits a warm, diffused light, softening the grand scale of a stairwell or atrium. Subtle iridescent and rainbow-like reflections play across the surfaces where the light refracts through the glass density. When Unlit: In natural or ambient light, the crisp borosilicate rods present a sleek, silver-clear architectural profile with sharp, clean linear reflections. These Chandaliers were exclusively custom made of best materials. Institutional custom design by VISTAR for Hungarian National Bank Headquarters.
