About the Item

An original mid century studio floor lamp from 1940s Hungary, conceived for professional photographic and early film production. Built during a period of rapid industrial adaptation in Central Europe, these lights were engineered for output, endurance and precise control in demanding studio environments. The defining feature is the generous 600 mm spun aluminium reflector, its broad concave form designed to cast a wide, even wash of light across sets and subjects. The brushed aluminium surface catches light with a soft radial grain, giving the piece a quietly cinematic presence even when unlit. At the rear, a perforated gallery provides essential ventilation, a practical detail that speaks to long hours under hot studio lamps. The shade is supported by an articulated steel cradle with a ball joint mechanism, allowing full directional adjustment. Height can be altered along the vertical column, while the original tripod base ensures stability. The mechanical fittings, wing screws and industrial clamps remain intact, carrying an honest patina that reflects decades of working life. Sensitively restored, this lamp retains its authentic industrial character while benefiting from updated electrics. It is been rewired using new CE certified or UL listed components and is fitted with a braided cable, UK plug and inline on / off switch. Sculptural and architectural in scale, this piece transitions effortlessly from its photographic origins into contemporary interiors. Ideal for loft spaces, studios, retail environments or as a statement floor lamp in a private residence, it offers a rare example of mid century Hungarian industrial design with genuine studio heritage.
