About the Item

A rare ‘Dafne’ floor lamp by Olaf von Bohr, designed in 1972 and produced by Valenti. Sculptural yet minimal, it features a twin-blossom shade in molded acrylic, perched atop a slender chromed steel stem and round ivory-enameled base. Each shade offers independent illumination—glowing upward and downward for a softly diffused ambient effect. Born in Salzburg and trained first as a woodworker, Olaf von Bohr’s path to design began with his hands. He studied furniture-making in Munich before moving to Milan in 1954, where he entered the orbit of Gio Ponti at the Ponti Fornaroli Rosselli studio. A brief chapter at La Rinascente and Kartell followed, grounding him in both retail innovation and the emerging language of Italian modernism. By 1960, von Bohr had established his own studio—restless, curious, and deeply committed to understanding not just how objects looked, but how they were made. He followed each phase of production alongside engineers and craftsmen. His collaboration with Ecolight—soon to become Valenti—began in 1967, yielding a series of now-iconic designs: Dafne, Medusa, Heron, Shell. Pieces that bridged sculptural form and technical clarity, and helped define the mood of Italian Space Age lighting. Condition: Great vintage condition. The enameled base shows scattered surface scuffs and light scratches throughout. Subtle oxidation to the chrome stem, consistent with age. Professionally rewired by our restoration team with four new E26 sockets, a white cord, and a foot switch. Not UL listed. Additional Dimensions: Base: 13.5"Diameter
